Matching your wavelength with the nano-scale
The Bio-imaging Facility, Division of Biological Sciences, maintains four dedicated confocal and two epifluorescence microscopes and provides service for various light microscopy techniques . We offer our instruments and expertise needed for imaging samples ranging from organelles to molecules in both live and fixed conditions.
The facility provides confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) services to various Departments and Centers of the Institute, primarily the Division of Biological Sciences. Besides this, various investigators from Engineering and Basic Sciences such as the Materials Research Centre (MRC), Materials Engineering (ME), Mechanical Engineering, Inorganic Physical Chemistry (IPC), Physics, Instrumentation and applied physics, Organic Chemistry, and Nanoscience (CeNSE) use our facility. Our facility is also open to external users both from academia and corporate institutions (from November, 2016). We have dedicated and trained personnel operating the microscopes who have experience imaging bacteria, mammalian cells, yeast cells, Drosophila and Zebra fish, drosophila, sections of brain and other tissues, carbon nanodots and nanoparticles, in both fixed and live specimens. Leica has established an Imaging facility with IISc in October 2017, having an MoU for the Leica TCS SP8 confocal microscope for a contract period of a year.
